features & specs
The 2023 Audi TT sprints and corners as well as better rivals, but sacrifices advanced technology in favor of a plushly trimmed cockpit.
What kind of car is the 2023 Audi TT? What does it compare to?
The 2023 Audi TT roadster and coupe pair sporty performance with standard all-wheel drive. There are few cars like it, though competitors include the BMW Z4, Toyota Supra, and Porsche 718.
Is the 2023 Audi TT a good car?
A fun driver’s car without much space for others, the Audi TT earns a TCC Rating of 5.4 out of 10. (Read more abouthow we rate cars.)
What's new for the 2023 Audi TT?
Not much. The 2023 TT coupe and roadster models get a new 18-inch wheel design, while the TTS carries over unchanged.
Last year invited speculation that Audi was planning to discontinue the TT, particularly since Audi hasn’t announced the return of the high-performance TT RS, but it appears the base coupe and roadster, plus the TTS, are content to hang around for at least another model year. The sleek and low-slung design still looks good, with hints of Art Deco inspiration. The snug cockpit combines digital instrumentation with a leather-trimmed dash and aeronautical-inspired round vents.
It’s a driver’s car; attention paid to the passenger is an afterthought. The front seats are spacious and supportive, fitted with nappa leather and heaters. The back seat is deleted on the roadster and that might as well be the same for coupes. With little interior space and a small trunk, trips require planning and a light touch with the packing.
The TT is based on old VW architecture, back to the front-wheel-drive VW Golf, and driving dynamics are reminiscent of the best GTIs and Golf Rs, with standard all-wheel drive and a 228-hp turbo-4. The TTS tunes power to 288 hp, good for a 4.4-second run to 60 mph thanks to slick shifts from the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Every TT is perfectly flingable, ready for pointing and shooting through corners; the TTS gets magnetic dampers to soften a firm ride. Without safety ratings or even the most common safety tech, the time and place for such spirited driving is at your discretion.
How much does the 2023 Audi TT cost?
The base coupe is priced from $53,295; the roadster starts at $57,395 and adds a power drop top to features including heated sport seats covered in nappa leather, a digital instrument display, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system. The TTS tops $62,995.
Where is the 2023 Audi TT made?
The TT is produced in Hungary.
2023 Audi TT Styling
It’s watered down from icon status, but the TT’s still sharply drawn.
Is the Audi TT a good-looking car?
Sleek, even a little menacing, the Audi TT scores an 8 here. We award one extra point for the body and two for the simple yet sumptuous cabin.
The TT has echoes of Audi’s R8 supercar, in the lines of the upright grille and clamshell hood, yet it’s not hard to see the traces of the VW Golf still left in its underpinnings. The TTS, with bigger wheels and aerodynamic trim elements, communicates a more serious approach.
The cabin is delightful, though missing the center touchscreen you’ll find in nearly any other car on the market. The digital gauge cluster offers lush graphics, flanked by toggle switches and large round vents.
2023 Audi TT Performance
Tossable and small, the TT lacks RS spec this year.
Even without the top-end 394-hp RS trim, the Audi TT’s agile handling and brisk acceleration earn a high performance score. We rate a 7 here; the TTS scored separately would be an 8.
Is the Audi TT AWD?
Every TT features all-wheel drive.
How fast is the Audi TT?
The base powertrain in both coupe and roadster form is a 2.0-liter turbo-4 paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive, good for 228 hp. This gives the coupe a 5.2-second run to 60 mph, and 5.5 seconds for the roadster. The transmission is sharp, with a tendency to quickly find the right gear, though there’s a delightful exhaust note between shifts.
We prefer the 228-hp turbo-4 in the TTS, which drops the 0-60 mph run to 4.4 seconds and boosts top speed from 130 mph to 155 mph.
It's nose-heavy but the TT wears its weight gracefully, with an overall size that’s easy to pivot through corners. Steering feedback is quick and pleasurable, and though it can be pushed into oversteer, it’s also compliant enough for everyday driving, made even better with the TTS’ magnetic dampers.
2023 Audi TT Comfort & Quality
Drivers will enjoy the TT; passengers, not so much.
The TT will accommodate two adults in front just fine, though the +2 passengers are better off finding another ride. We award a 5 here, after we add a point for front-seat comfort and immediately subtract it for the back seat. If we scored roadsters separately, they’d lose another point for the tiny trunk.
Front passengers are coddled by thick-bolstered sport seats with nappa leather upholstery. They’re on the snug side, but larger passengers will still fit. Headroom and legroom will be fine for all but the tallest adults.
The coupe’s back seat is more like a package shelf, best thought of as overflow for the 12.0-cubic-foot trunk. The roadster doesn’t have a back seat, and its trunk shrinks to 7.5 cubic feet to accommodate the top and its hardware.
2023 Audi TT Safety
No crash test data is available.
How safe is the Audi TT?
We don’t know, since the TT hasn’t been crash-tested. The TT is also missing critical safety tech that’s become expected even on inexpensive cars, such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. It does include blind-spot monitors and parking sensors, though.
2023 Audi TT Features
The TT lacks critical infotainment and safety features.
Audi fits the TT with some of the luxury and performance touches appropriate for its price, though a lot of popular tech features are nowhere to be found. The infotainment system is behind the times, which results in a 4 here.
The $53,295 TT coupe and $57,395 TT roadster offer heated front seats, nappa leather upholstery, a digital gauge cluster, navigation, Bang & Olufsen audio, and 18-inch wheels. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto aren’t available, and there’s no driver-assistance feature package.
Which Audi TT should I buy? How much is a fully loaded Audi TT?
We’d splurge on the TTS coupe for $62,995. It ’s more powerful and features magnetic dampers as well as 19-inch wheels with grippier tires.
Audi covers every TT with a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty.
2023 Audi TT Fuel Economy
Gas mileage is hardly the point of the Audi TT.
Is the Audi TT good on gas?
It’s fine, but it’s hardly the point. It earns a 3 on our scale based on the base spec’s EPA ratings of 23 mpg city, 31 highway, 26 mpg combined; the TTS gets 23/29/25 mpg.
