features & specs
In its final year, the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro inspires lust with fantastic power, excellent driving dynamics, and a commemorative limited edition.
What kind of car is the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro? What does it compare to?
The Chevy Camaro is equally appealing in coupe and convertible body styles, and melds 1960s flair with fantastic modern performance. It competes with muscle cars like the Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang, but also consider cross-shopping it against coupes such as the Toyota Supra and convertibles such as the BMW Z4.
Is the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Though it shines on a track, it’s somewhat less agreeable on the street. The Camaro’s excellent scores in performance combine with mediocre scores in interior quality and fuel economy, which result in a TCC Rating of 5.2 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What's new for the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro?
A special Collector’s Edition marks the last model year of the Camaro’s run. Available on LT/RS, LT1, SS, and ZL1 trims, the Collector’s Edition flaunts a special Panther Black Metallic Tintcoat exterior (a reference to the model’s original code name of Panther) while a 350-unit run of ZL1 Collector’s Edition models wears Panther Black Matte paint, marking the Camaro’s first factory matte finish. Chevy drops the base 1LS trim and its turbo-4 from the lineup.
That leaves the LT, LT1, SS and ZL1 trims, with a choice of a V-6 and two V-8 powertrains, in sporty coupe and convertible form. The most potent of the bunch, the supercharged V-8, is capable of 3.5-second 0-60 mph runs. Driving dynamics are thrilling across the lineup, but sight lines are congested.
The Camaro is best enjoyed with just two occupants, relegating the tiny back seat to extra storage space. It earns decent crash-test scores but omits some desirable safety features.
How much does the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro cost?
Starting prices are a bit higher this year since the base trim is now the LT that starts at $33,890 for the coupe and $39,890 for the convertible, assuming the $1,395 destination charge holds steady. As of this writing, Chevrolet hasn’t yet announced pricing for the rest of the lineup, but it’s safe to speculate the top-end supercharged V-8 ZL1 will cost at least $70,000.
Where is the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro made?
In Lansing, Michigan.
2024 Chevrolet Camaro Styling
It’s a real-life Hot Wheels car you can actually drive.
Is the Chevrolet Camaro a good-looking car?
The sleek profile of the Camaro exemplifies retro confidence. Though the body flexes its muscle, that charm is lacking inside the cabin. The Camaro earns two points for its exterior, adding up to a 7 here.
For 2024, don’t overlook the Collector’s Edition, which wears exclusive Panther Matte Black on the top ZL1 and Panther Black Metallic on the rest of the lineup, along with black racing stripes and commemorative badging.
The profile combines a low roof and high beltline, and the long nose balances out the stout rear haunches, all adding up to traditional sports car styling. The proportions seriously compromise cabin space, but the Camaro wears them with pride.
The cabin is a lot more demure than the exterior, though it could be argued that an exciting cockpit would simply overwhelm. The space is small and dark, with grayscale materials and few focal points. The focal points are a flat-bottomed steering wheel and either a 7.0- or 8.0-inch touchscreen. Collector’s Edition models dress up with laser-etched floor mats, unique black trim, and a panther on the steering wheel badge; the ZL1 models come with a Shinola watch inscribed with the individual car’s production number.
2024 Chevrolet Camaro Performance
The Camaro plows through corners with plenty of traction and V-8 grunt.
The sunsetting Camaro shines due to its excellent platform that makes the most of the car’s significant power by optimizing dynamics and handling. Even on the basis of its more accessible and popular versions, it’s good for a 9.
Is the Chevrolet Camaro AWD?
All Camaros are rear-wheel drive.
How fast is the Chevrolet Camaro?
It’s pretty fast across the board, especially now that the base turbo-4 has been discontinued. The Camaro lineup kicks off with a throaty 3.6-liter V-6 rated for 335 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual comes standard and a 10-speed automatic is optional, both good for a 5.0-second 60-mph sprint.
The two V-8 powertrains motivate the most lust-worthy Camaros. Both LT1 and SS models feature a 6.2-liter V-8 rated for 455 hp and 455 lb-ft, good for 4.0-second 0-60 mph sprints. ZL1 models supercharge that engine to produce 650 hp and 650 lb-ft, plus the telltale aural charms of forced induction. It can hit 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and run a quarter-mile in 11.4 seconds.
The Camaro has evolved to make the most of its power by optimizing handling. Even in corners, the Camaro grips with precision, and there’s plenty of steering feedback. Available magnetic dampers help balance handling and ride comfort, though the wheel and tire size make a big difference here, too, so err on the size of modestly. The ZL1 with 1LE package includes a track-ready suspension, electronic limited-slip differential, dual-mode exhaust, and Brembo performance brakes.
2024 Chevrolet Camaro Comfort & Quality
The Camaro’s best seat is reserved for the driver; others pale in comparison.
The Chevy Camaro’s fantastic driver’s seat is the only one worth sitting in. Even the front passenger lacks a reasonable variety of power adjustments, and outward vision is poor due to the low position. The rear row is best left as a package shelf; adults shouldn’t even attempt to climb back there. Take the tiny trunk into consideration, too, and it results in a 3 here.
Recaro sport seats with heating and cooling are available up front, though it’s worth noting that taller drivers may not fit comfortably in these seats, particularly if racing helmets come into the picture.
Coupe models provide 9.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity, though convertibles claim two of those cubic feet for the power-folding top. For both, the trunk is awkward to access thanks to its high liftover and small opening.
2024 Chevrolet Camaro Safety
The Camaro has poor outward vision and lacks automatic braking.
How safe is the Chevrolet Camaro?
The Camaro has decent crash-test scores, but lacks automatic emergency braking and offers poor rearward vision. It earns a 4 on the TCC scale.
The 2024 Camaro coupe earns a NHTSA five-star overall rating, while the IIHS awarded the 2023 model mostly “Good” crash-test scores, except for an “Acceptable” for roof strength.
Chevrolet does not offer adaptive cruise control or automatic emergency braking on the Camaro, and buyers need to spend for the 3LT trim to add rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitors.
2024 Chevrolet Camaro Features
The best Camaro trim features cooled seats, Bose audio, and V-8 power.
Lacking essential safety tech such as automatic emergency braking, the Camaro sacrifices some of the goodwill earned by its easy-to-use infotainment and broad options menu. That results in a 7 here.
The Camaro lineup kicks off with the base $33,890 LT, and ascends through LT1, SS, and ZL1. Coupe and convertible versions are available at all levels. Standard fare includes keyless start, a power driver’s seat, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker stereo, and 18-inch wheels.
Which Chevrolet Camaro should I buy?
As of this writing, Chevy has only released pricing for the entry-level 2024 Camaro models. We recommend the Camaro SS, which will cost about $46,000 based on 2023 pricing, and we’d budget another $7,000 or so for the 1LE package. That gets a well-equipped car ready for the track, with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, heated and cooled front seats, Bose audio, a head-up display, a rear camera mirror, 20-inch alloys with summer rubber, and Brembo sport brakes.
How much is a fully loaded Chevrolet Camaro?
Budget at least $70,000 for the ZL1, including a gas-guzzler tax. This buys a track data recorder, Recaro seats, magnetic dampers, and grippy Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar summer rubber. The ZL1 1LE Extreme Track Performance package is also a compelling option, for about $7,500 or so. It adds a front splitter, front dive planes, a carbon-fiber rear wing, adjustable ride height, camber settings, and rear stabilizer bars.
Chevrolet hasn’t yet published pricing for the 2024 ZL1 Collector’s Edition, which is limited to 350 units and features exclusive styling as well as a coordinating Shinola watch.
2024 Chevrolet Camaro Fuel Economy
With no more turbo-4, fuel economy is dismal.
Is the Chevrolet Camaro good on gas?
When powered by the V-6, the Camaro earns EPA ratings of 18 mpg city, 29 highway, 22 combined with the automatic transmission and 16/26/20 mpg with the manual.
Ratings drop considerably with the more common V-8, to 16/26/20 mpg with the automatic and 16/24/19 mpg with the manual. With a supercharger, ratings drop to 13/21/16 and 14/20/16 mpg for automatic and manual, respectively.
Based on the V-8 configurations, we score the Camaro a 1 for gas mileage—but wouldn’t want it any other way.
