The 2024 has the goods to get work done, including class-leading towing capability.
What kind of vehicle is the 2024 Ford Super Duty F-250? What does it compare to?
The Ford Super Duty is built to work, alongside heavy-duty pickups that include the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, GMC Sierra 2500HD, and Ram 2500.Â
Is the 2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 a good truck?
Buyers who need their trucks to tow and haul should consider the Ford Super Duty. It tows with the best of them, has a varied lineup, and offers lots of space for people and gear. Capability is a strength, but fuel economy and safety drop its TCC Rating to 4.8 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What's new for the 2024 Ford Super Duty F-250?
After a major revision for 2023, the 2024 Ford Super Duty lineup gets only minor tweaks, A pickup box delete is now available for the F-250, onboard scales are now available on XL and XLT trims rather than the Lariat and above, and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup are now standard on Lariat and above.
The Super Duty presents a big, bold, blocky shape, but it isn’t as overly macho as the GM trucks. The nose is tall and wide with quad headlights flanked by bracket-shaped LED light signatures. The sides feature round wheel cutouts and integrated side steps and a bed step is also available. Tie downs come standard for the bed.Â
Inside, the dash is largely plastic with a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen, though buyers can upgrade to dual 12.0-inch screens for gauges and infotainment. Work considerations override luxury, as Ford provides large controls for gloved hands, deep storage, available work surfaces, and even fully reclining front seats for when you might need a rest at the job site. Hard plastics dominate, but luxurious materials are available in the upper trims.Â
Four engines are available with increasing levels of power and capability. Gas choices are a 6.8- or a 7.3-liter V-8 with 405 or 430 hp, and buyers can choose two versions of a 6.7-liter turbodiesel V-8 that make 475 or 500 hp, but more importantly 1,050 or 1,200 lb-ft of torque. The Super Duty can haul up to 8,000 pounds of payload, and the high-output diesel unlocks the F-350’s max 30,000-pound towing capacity. All engines are backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission, and customers have the choice of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive with low-range gearing.
Fuel economy ratings and crash-test results aren’t available, but fuel economy is a definite weakness. Important safety features aren’t standard at the base level, but the Super Duty can be had with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, active lane control, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and a surround-view camera system.
How much does the 2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 cost?
Ford offers the Super Duty in F-250, F-350 models, as well as commercial F-450 and F-550 models, each with the ability to tow more. This report focuses mostly on the F-250, with some references to the F-350.Â
Like other full-size pickups, the Super Duty comes with regular-, extended-, and crew-cab body styles. The bed sizes are 6-foot-8 or 8 feet, and trim levels include XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.
Some available features that help get work done include on-board scales, 28 views from the surround-view camera system, a bed step, and an onboard generator.
The base Ford Super Duty F-250 costs $46,695, including a $1,995 destination fee. It comes standard with vinyl floors, cruise control, air conditioning, a 4.2-inch information display, an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, power locks and windows, vinyl upholstery, manual front seat adjustments, a trailer brake controller, a hitch receiver, and 17-inch steel wheels. The extended cab adds about $2,500 and the crew cab adds another $1,500.
A Limited model can top $100,000.

The F-250 and F-350 are built in Kentucky.Â
2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 Styling
Big, bold, and blocky, the Super Duty looks like it means business, but it can tip into luxury.
Is the 2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 a good-looking truck?
Graceful the Super Duty isn’t. It wears the bulky uniform of a hockey goalie like a pickup should. While it isn’t as brash as the GM heavy duties, it has the typical pickup shape, just writ larger for its work mission. We see nothing especially appealing or unappealing, and that earns it a perfectly average 5 here.Â
Up front, the F-250 features a tall nose with stacked quad headlights that sit at the corners of a large grille with a lot of real estate for cooling. The grille is outlined by bracket-shaped LED signature lights. The tall, upright theme continues throughout and the tires sit within round rather than squared-off wheel cutouts like the GM products. We do appreciate some of the utilitarian features, including the side bed steps, the rear bumper steps, and grab handles.Â
Black trim appears on STX, Sport, and Black appearance packages versions, while the King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited aim for a high-end look with chrome trim.Â
The cabin has a pair of screens oriented in a bezel aimed at the driver. They are a small 4.2-inch information display surrounded by analog instruments and an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen in the XL and XLT models and a pair of 12.0-inch screens that fit the design better in the higher-end models. The dash is largely plastic, which is finished nicer and better hidden as you move up the lineup. The dials are large enough for use by gloved hands. The center console is large and deep with a work surface, and models with the bench seat get a work surface that folds down and telescopes out to provide its own work surface. Materials range from utilitarian vinyl floors to sturdy leather.Â
2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 Performance
The Ford Super Duty is built to tow and haul our toys.
The Super Duty earns points for strong engines and its incredible ability to tow and haul, but it loses a point for its poor handling brought on by its large size and weight.Â
Is the Ford Super Duty F-250 4WD?
The Super Duty comes with rear- or four-wheel drive. The 4WD system works part time, has a 2-speed transfer case and, and offers several drive modes in some models.
How fast is the Ford Super Duty F-250?
It’s not meant to be fast. It’s meant to deliver strong power that can pull a big load, no matter which of the two gas or two turbodiesel engines buyers choose. As a result, it’s plenty fast enough to get ahead of traffic or make a worry-free highway pass, provided it isn’t towing something heavy. All of the engines are backed by a competent 10-speed automatic transmission.Â
The base engine is a pushrod 6.8-liter V-8 that makes 405 hp and 445 lb-ft. It is rated to tow as much as 18,900 pounds and haul a payload of up to 8,000 pounds. It will work for most buyers, but those towing bigger loads will want to upgrade.Â
A 7.3-liter version of the 6.8-liter V-8 increases output to 430 hp and 485 lb-ft. Its power comes on more smoothly, and it can pull up to 22,500 pounds and haul up to 7,647 pounds.Â
Ford charges $10,000 more for the 6.7-liter turbodiesel V-8 that has only a little more horsepower at 475 but a lot more torque at 1,050 lb-ft. Add another $2,500 and buyers can get a high-output version of the diesel that churns out 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft.Â
The diesels are both torque rich and ready to pull the largest loads. The high-output version tops out at 30,000 pounds of towing capacity, a figure that requires a commercial driver’s license. We towed a heavy load up a 7% grade without losing speed, but the high-capacity fan went into what felt like overdrive.
The Super Duty gets a different towing hookup than most F-150s, with a dedicated emergency brake loop and more easily accessed emergency chain hookups. While that’s helpful, the optional surround-view camera system with up to 28 views is a godsend for towing.Â
Ride quality is firmer than a light-duty pickup, but the Super Duty rides well for such a big beast. It doesn’t quake and buck as much as it used to when unladen. Don’t expect to go around corners with any gusto, however, as at least three tons of mass doesn’t like to change directions very well. Buyers of the off-road-oriented Tremor off-road package also get the best ride quality thanks to lots of tire sidewall. The tradeoff is a bit of road noise.Â
2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 Comfort & Quality
The Super Duty can tow a boat, carry six people, and haul all their gear at the same time.
The Super Duty can haul lots of stuff and people in comfort. The roomy front and rear seats, spacious bed, and ability to serve five or more adults well earn it a 9 out of 10 here.Â
Ford offers the Super Duty with seating for five or six, and front and rear passengers have lots of headroom and legroom. The front seats, whether a bench or buckets, are wide enough for bigger riders and the truck is wide enough to fit three across well in either seating row. The front bench has a slide-out work surface. The back seat bottoms fold up to offer additional storage space on a flat cargo floor as well as underseat storage with an optional pop-up divider.Â
The Super Duty starts to get luxurious in upper trims with leather upholstery and wood trim, though the stuff that looks like metal is plastic so the Ford still trails the Ram in interior materials quality.Â
The beds have multiple tie-downs and offer optional hooks, dividers, and tonneau covers. The beds are big and deep to carry lots of cargo.
2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 Safety
The Super Duty has no crash-test scores and doesn’t make important safety features standard.
How safe is the Ford Super Duty F-250?
The Ford Super Duty lacks the standard safety features of most light vehicles but its mass will win in a crash. Heavy duty pickups aren’t usually crash-tested, and there is no data for this generation of Super Duty. It weighs a lot, though, and it will impose its will on any smaller vehicles it hits. Too bad for them. Without those ratings, we rate heavy-duty pickups a 1.
Ford should make the basic safety features standard, namely front and rear parking sensors, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitors. The latter two are available on the base truck and standard on XLT. The base truck gets only automatic high beams. Higher-line models can be optioned with active lane control, adaptive cruise control, cross-traffic alerts, blind-spot monitors that can integrate with a trailer, and the highly recommended surround-view camera system.
2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 Features
The Super Duty comes as anything from a spartan work truck to a beast loaded with luxury features.
The Super Duty wears many hats, and they’re all ready to work. It gets only decent base content, but the large number of build configurations and generous options list earn it a 7 out of 10 here.Â
Which 2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 should I buy?
The sweet spot for features and comfort is a Lariat crew cab, which starts at $66,735 and includes four-wheel drive and the 7.3-liter V-8. It gets leather upholstery,, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster, a 12.0-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, power-adjustable pedals, and 18-inch alloy wheels, among others.
Ford’s ProPower system is optional. It has two 120-volt outlets in the bed, a 120-volt outlet in the front row, and another 120-volt outlet in the rear seat of crew cabs. With 2 kw of power and a 20-amp breaker, it turns the truck into a portable generator.
Ford also offers some cool features for towing, including built-in scales that notify owners when the max tongue weight or max payload has been reached via the touchscreen or by exterior light flashes. An available parking sensor and camera for the top of the tailgate provides a rear parking sensor with the tailgate down. Another feature automatically lines up the hitch receiver with a trailer so the latter can just drop in place.Â
How much is a fully loaded 2024 Ford Super Duty F-250?
It can top six figures. A duallie F-350 Limited with the long bed starts at about $104,000, and it gets the high-output diesel engine. It has all the features, including driver seat memory, real wood trim, automatic running boards, a remote locking and power deployable tailgate, a tailgate step, onboard scales, a smart hitch, a sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, Pro Power Onboard, a head-up display, a 14-speaker B&O audio system, and 20-inch alloy wheels.Â
2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 Fuel Economy
It has no EPA fuel economy ratings, but you can bet the Super Duty drinks a lot of fuel.
Is the 2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 good on gas?
Obviously not, but we don’t have fuel economy figures because the Super Duty is too heavy for EPA testing. However, we know that if it did have ratings it wouldn’t score higher than a 1 on our scale, so that’s what we assign it.Â
Expect fuel economy in the teens at best combined, and maybe more than 20 mpg on the highway with a diesel engine. When towing, single-digit figures are likely.
