What's new for the 2025 Genesis G70?
A new matte blue paint hue has been added to the palette. Otherwise, the G70 enters 2025 unchanged.
Styling tweaks last year brought a fresh version of the brand’s shield-like grille, plus the stacked headlights and taillights were revised. The G70 is just as attractive as ever, with sinewy proportions and lovely detailing outside. It’s even better inside thanks to a terrific driver-focused dash with just the right amount of fuss. Don’t look for too many interior color and trim options, though. At best, you’ll have three upholstery and trim hues from which to select.
The G70 comes in two flavors, with the added option of all-wheel drive in either setup. The 2.5T features a robust 2.5-liter turbo-4 rated at 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque, while the V-6 uses a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 pegged at 365 hp and 376 lb-ft. Either way, power goes to the wheels through a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission. The base car is plenty quick—so peppy, in fact, that the V-6’s main advantage is its sonorous snarl.
Fuel economy isn’t a G70 strong suit. Estimates range from a somewhat lousy 24 mpg combined for a turbo-4 model with rear-wheel drive to just 19 mpg combined for an all-wheel-drive twin-turbo V-6.
These cars ride firmly and corner with limited lean. Good steering heft and feedback are assets, though the steering can have a slight dead feel on center. Top-end models offer adaptive dampers to smooth out the ride with big wheels and a limited-slip differential for added grip in hard cornering. Strong Brembo brakes bring the G70 to a halt quickly.
The G70 has a stylish interior with convenient controls and a big touchscreen. Its front seats are terrific, but rear-seat riders will find limited space. And the 10.5 cubic-foot trunk is almost insultingly small.
This model is light on recent crash-test data, though the tests that have been performed have had terrific results so far. All models have good driver-assistance tech, including adaptive cruise control that can be used with a highway driving assistance system for short stints of hands-free motoring.

The Genesis G70 is a styling standout.
Is the Genesis G70 a good-looking car?
It’s a great-looking car, with classic and sporty long-hood, short-trunk proportions and fine detailing. It’s an 8 here, with two points above average for its classy, calm cabin, and one for its pretty exterior.
The G70 has a shield-like grille up front surrounded on each side by two lighting strips. That look is repeated at the rear, with chunkier, bacon-esque light strips on either side of a curvy trunk lid. The G70’s profile is just muscular enough thanks to a bold line that runs from the front fenders to the taillights.
Inside, the G70 has a wonderfully convenient arrangement, seemingly devoid of excess and yet downright luxurious nonetheless. The center stack angles—more stylistically than literally—toward the driver. Though the 10.3-inch screen above looks something like an afterthought, it also fades into the background in stark contrast to some screen-heavy rivals. This is a purposeful cabin, one that could easily be attributed to a German brand.
Unfortunately, Genesis is a bit stingy with interior colors, so you’d better be happy with black or light tan, though red is available with some combinations.

The G70 follows a traditional sport sedan recipe, at least for the most part: a well-tuned chassis, good power, and little in the way of frills. It’s a success, to the tune of a 7 here thanks to acceleration and handling.

Rear-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional across the line for $2,100.
How fast is the Genesis G70?
The base 2.5-liter turbo-4 sends 300 hp and 311 lb-ft to the wheels through a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission. It's is good enough for a 0-60-mph sprint in the mid-five-second range. That’s plenty quick for us. Lag is kept to a minimum, which impresses given just how big this engine is for a 4-cylinder.
The stronger—and smoother—twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 in high-end models puts out 365 hp and 373 lb-ft. That’s a notable improvement, though this engine can feel a bit laggier. It's better at pouring on power, sounds great, and delivers effortless highway passing as it guzzles down premium fuel.
Any G70 has a firm but composed ride, with good impact absorption and limited lean in corners. Even the least-costly G70 has an athletic feel, while those with available adaptive dampers and the limited-slip differential can feel like Olympic athletes in Sport mode.
The thick-rim steering wheel is connected to a system with good heft and reasonable feel, even if there’s a slight on-center dead spot that can make high-speed tracking ever-so-slightly less confidence-inspiring here than in Germany’s absolute top dogs. The difference is nearly negligible, though, and the G70 manages to have a bit more personality in many ways.
Standard Brembo brakes deliver strong stopping power, too. They live up to their name here.

The 2025 Genesis G70 has a lovely cabin, though it’s not very spacious.
Genesis fits a fine interior into the G70, so long as your definition of beauty doesn’t extend to a spacious rear seat. It’s a 6 here thanks to good seats and trim, with a point dialed back for the confining rear seat.
The G70 was updated last year with fresh buttons and knobs, which give it a modern look. Genesis hasn’t gone button-free like some rivals, though, so this is an easy enough cabin to sort through.
The front seats are heated and power-adjustable in all trims, with sufficient padding and bolstering to accommodate a wide range of passengers.
Row two is tight. Two adults can squeeze in, but they’ll find limited headroom and legroom. The bite-size 10.5 cubic-foot trunk is sports car-sized. If you need space, look to the Genesis GV70, which is a similar vehicle in many ways.
Interior materials impress here, though the base trim has synthetic rather than real leather.

How safe is the Genesis G70?
The IIHS has conducted limited testing on the latest G70, though the evaluations that have been performed so far have resulted in top “Good” ratings, aside from a “Marginal” for child seat tethers. Then again, with a back seat this small, the ability to squeeze in a kid seat may not be critical for you.
The current G70 has not been evaluated by the NHTSA.
That said, we can award the G70 a point above average for its standard equipment, which includes forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts, automatic high-beams, and an adaptive cruise control system with a highway driving-assist feature that allows for very short stints of hands-off motoring.
Most trims have parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, and a blind-spot camera that projects a live video feed onto the instrument cluster.

Is the Genesis G70 good on gas?
It’s not great. The most frugal versions are, not surprisingly, those with turbo-4 power. For 2025, the EPA test pegs them at 21 mpg city, 29 highway, 24 combined with rear-wheel drive, or 20/28/23 mpg with all-wheel drive. That’s a 2 on our scale.
The 3.5T checks in at just 17/25/20 mpg with rear-wheel drive, or a rather lousy 17/23/19 mpg with all-wheel drive.
Premium gas is required.
There’s no plug-in hybrid here, as you’ll find in the BMW stable, and, anyway, most 4-cylinder rivals can at least hit 25 mpg combined.
