Great styling and tech help the 2024 Genesis GV60 stand out from the crowd.
What kind of vehicle is the 2024 Genesis GV60? What does it compare to?
Now in its second year, the Genesis GV60 continues to shine. It’s built on an electric crossover platform it shares with the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, and other rivals include Tesla’s Model Y and Volvo’s C40 and XC40.
Is the 2024 Genesis GV60 a good car?
It’s good, and potentially great for the right driver. The suspension system isn’t up to par, but otherwise, the GV60 impresses us with a luxurious cabin, user-friendly technology, and a good list of standard features. This Genesis earns a TCC Rating of 8.2 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What's new for the 2024 Genesis GV60?
A new rear-wheel-drive variant drops the entry price by $8,500 and boosts the range from 248 miles to 294 miles. The dual-motor model also gets a boost in range by 16 miles to 264 miles, but that’s only because Genesis downsized the standard wheels from a 20-inch design to 19-inchers. The 20-inch wheels are now optional, and the Performance trim still rolls on 21-inch wheels, resulting in an estimated 235-mile range.
The GV60 is closely related to its Hyundai and Kia cousins, though its cabin and tech are a step above, and rightfully so considering the price disparity.
Outside, the GV60 blends a mostly conventional crossover profile with signature Genesis touches, such as parallel lines across the lighting, the vaguely aeronautical grille, and small front and rear overhangs. It’s a bold styling statement in a small package, but works well.
The GV60 Standard RWD uses a 77-kwh battery pack and a 168-kw rear motor rated at 225 hp. The dual-motor model carries over with the same 77.4-kwh unit found in the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5’s longer-range models. The entry-level Advanced model features a front 74-kw motor and rear 160-kw motor, good for a total output of 314 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque. The Performance model puts a 160-kw motor up front, too, yielding total output of 429 hp and 516 lb-ft, which can be increased to 483 hp temporarily via the boost mode. The upgraded suspension system in Performance models uses a road-scanning camera to anticipate road imperfections and adjust accordingly.
Both versions get an 800-volt charging architecture that lets the GV60 top off from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes at a DC fast charger.
The cabin features an interesting array of textures and shapes that feel upscale without trying too hard. The center console prioritizes function, with a good layout and plenty of storage, though there’s a notable exception to the function-over-fashion rule, an illuminated orb that hides the gear selector.
Genesis outfits the GV60 with a list of standard features that beats out some SUVs’ full options menus. A pair of 12.3-inch displays houses the instrument cluster and infotainment system, and the GV60 also gets a panoramic glass roof, front seats with heating and cooling, wireless device charging, a Bang & Olufsen stereo, a power tailgate, and a head-up display. Newly standard this year is a wifi hotspot and digital key.
More standard safety features include additional airbags, a seatbelt pretensioner, and an enhanced version of its adaptive cruise control that also keeps the vehicle centered in the lane. That supplements standard automatic emergency braking, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, and a surround-view camera system.
How much does the 2024 Genesis GV60 cost?
The 2024 Genesis GV60 Standard RWD costs $53,195 (including a mandatory $1,195 destination charge). The GV60 Advanced AWD costs $61,745, while the Performance model reaches $70,745. It’s not eligible for the federal EV tax credit.
The 2024 GV60 is available now in about half of the states (Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin), while the GV60 Performance AWD will arrive later this year.
Where is the 2024 Genesis GV60 made?
It’s made in South Korea.
2024 Genesis GV60 Styling
Elegant, upscale styling makes the Genesis GV60 a standout.
The Genesis GV60 looks good from most angles and the cabin impresses with its function and style. We award a point for the former and two for the latter, for a total score of 8 here.
Is the Genesis GV60 a good-looking car?
Yes. It’s sleek from the front, and stubby, in a sporty and mostly flattering way, from the sides. All models get gray cladding along the bottom edges, which, to be fair, looks better on some colors than others.
The stylish, thoughtful cabin layout uses a circular motif, with easy-to reach controls. The center console orb may seem like excess for excess’ sake, but it also provides a quick and easy way to ensure the GV60 is turned off, which can be tricky in some EVs.
2024 Genesis GV60 Performance
The GV60’s acceleration impresses, but rough roads result in a bumpy ride.
The Genesis GV60 has robust acceleration and never feels like it’s lacking for power. If there’s a weak point, it’s the suspension, which can be too harsh in tight corners and over rough roads. The powertrain earns points for a 7 here.
Is the Genesis GV60 4WD?
The Genesis GV60 can be had with a single motor with rear-wheel drive that costs less and has more range, or it can be equipped with dual-motor all-wheel drive for more power.
How fast is the Genesis GV60?
It’s fast enough, with an estimated 4.0-second 0-60 mph time for the dual-motor Performance model. The Advanced model isn’t quite as quick, but offers up plenty of hp and torque. The Performance offers up an additional 54 hp via Boost mode, which is activated by a button on the steering wheel and delivers a satisfying jolt of power in 10-second increments.
While the Advanced model comes with a fixed suspension system, the Performance model has an active system that uses a road-scanning camera to adjust settings on the fly. It’s the same system that’s found in the GV70, but seems to work better there. On the GV60, it tends to get too bouncy over the worst roads.
Genesis offers several settings for regenerative braking, including a one-pedal driving mode, and the systems change seamlessly and consistently.
We’ll update this section once we drive the new rear-motor model.
2024 Genesis GV60 Comfort & Quality
Though petite in stature, the 2024 Genesis GV60 offers surprising passenger space.
Though shorter and smaller than most of its contemporaries, the Genesis GV60 has good cargo and passenger space thanks to its efficient layout. We award a point for clever use of space, a point for its overall fit and finish, and a point for the front seats. It’s an 8.
For a small crossover, the GV60 seems surprisingly airy and open in both rows, with 37.6 inches of rear legroom, plenty of headroom, and 24.0 cubic feet of space for cargo.
Not only will you find upscale materials trimming the cockpit, that quality is consistent throughout the whole cabin. The Performance models elevate the look and feel with premium leather upholstery with a plush diamond pattern.
2024 Genesis GV60 Safety
Crash-testing isn’t yet complete, but the Genesis GV60’s tech set inspires confidence.
How safe is the Genesis GV60?
The IIHS awarded the top score of “Good” in the four tests it administered, and gave the 2023 model the Top Safety Pick+ rating. The GV60 hasn’t yet been evaluated by the NHTSA. We award a 7 for the IIHS rating and the GV60’s solid standard safety tech.
The Genesis GV60 boasts one of the best sets of standard safety tech of any new vehicle for sale. That includes the expected features, like automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, and parking sensors both front and rear, but here you’ll also find a blind-spot system with a live camera feed to the instrument cluster, a surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, automatic high-beam headlights, and automatic windshield wipers.
2024 Genesis GV60 Features
The 2024 Genesis GV60 excels in terms of features and tech.
Here Genesis racks up a ton of points, based on the GV60’s standard equipment and options, large displays, and great warranty coverage. It’s a 9.
Which Genesis GV60 should I buy?
At $61,745 for the base GV60 Advanced, most shoppers will be satisfied. It includes tech features like an innovative facial recognition system in the B-pillar combined with a fingerprint scanner system in the console that act as a biometric key. In other words, you can unlock and start this Genesis without a physical key or even a smartphone app. The camera works in all weather and light conditions, and won’t be fooled by photos or printed images.
Inside, you’ll find two 12.3-inch displays, one for infotainment and the other for the instrument cluster. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard, but require a wired connection. Power-adjustable heated and cooled front seats, a Bang & Olufsen stereo, wireless device charging, a heated steering wheel, and retractable door handles are all standard, as well as a remote park assist system.
How much is a fully loaded Genesis GV60?
Budget $70,745 for the Performance model, with more power, an upgraded suspension system, premium leather upholstery, a driver’s seat with massage function, and heated rear seats.
2024 Genesis GV60 Fuel Economy
The 2024 GV60 is efficient, though some rivals are even better.
The single-motor GV60 Standard RWD has an estimated range of 294 miles. That translates to an efficiency rating of 3.3 miles per kwh.
In Advanced form, the GV60 goes 264 miles on a full charge with 19-inch wheels and 248 miles with 20-inch wheels. With the smaller wheels, it rates at 3.0 miles per kwh. That’s a 10. The Performance, with more power, trails closely with a 235-mile range. It can drive a little more than 2.8 miles for every kwh in its battery.
However, you’ll find longer range in several rivals, such as the lighter Kia EV6, which manages 274 miles with the same powertrain. The Tesla Model Y, another notable example, boasts a range of 330 miles.
Genesis includes three years of 30-minute charging sessions in the Electrify America network. At a charging speed of 250 kw, the GV60 can charge from 10-80% in 18 minutes.
