The 2025 Genesis GV70 pairs great styling inside and out with approachable tech and a solid warranty.
What kind of vehicle is the 2025 Genesis GV70? What does it compare to?
The 2025 Genesis GV70 is a compact luxury crossover SUV, a mouthful of a category that also includes the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, and Volvo XC60.
Is the 2025 Genesis GV70 a good SUV?
Indeed it is, with a good interior, approachable tech, and reasonable pricing given its generous equipment level. The GV70 earns a high TCC score of 7.3 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What's new for the 2025 Genesis GV70?
The GV70 now includes standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The 2025 Genesis GV70 is a compact luxury SUV with distinctive styling, starting with a big shield of a grille flanked by a quartet of thin light bars. From the side, the GV70 has more in common with wagons than SUVs, though its rear quarter window seems tacked on. It’s more cohesive from the rear, though, where the taillights echo what’s up front.
The GV70’s even better inside with its low dash and wing-inspired design cues. Genesis does details better than just about anyone, so look closely and you’ll find all sorts of authentic, appealing touches with little in the way of gimmickry.
Genesis offers the GV70 in three basic flavors: a 300-hp turbo-4, a 375-hp twin-turbo V-6, or a 483-hp fully electric model. All are peppy, though the middle child is the quickest one here. The GV70 has a refined, comfortable ride and good, if not quite sporty, handling. It’s pleasant and comfortable.
Gas models check in between 20 and 24 mpg combined, depending on the setup. The Electrified GV70’s 236-mile range estimate isn’t great, though a 250-kw charger can add 60 miles of range in a scant five minutes under ideal circumstances. Even a nearly empty battery can be back on full on a Level 2 charger in a reasonable seven hours, though.
Though not one of the biggest compact luxury crossovers, the GV70 certainly has one of the nicest cabins. Its interior is divine to behold, and it has comfortable seats for four—or five in a tight squeeze. Its cargo space is on the small end, though.
The GV70 has done very well in crash tests and all models come with some safety tech that costs extra on rivals. You’ll find adaptive cruise control with stop-and go, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and active lane control across the line, while a blind-spot camera system, a surround-view camera system, and a highway driving assist system are available.
How much does the 2025 Genesis GV70 cost?
The base GV70 Standard runs $47,050 to start, a somewhat hefty $1,000 more than last year’s model given the limited changes for 2025. It's still a good overall value, though. You’ll find a 14.5-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone projection, synthetic leather over heated and power-adjustable front seats, and plenty of driver-assistance tech.
Still, we’d budget for a mid-level model for another $10,000 or so, since this cabin is at its best with leather and upgraded trim.
Where is the 2025 Genesis GV70 made?
Gas models come from South Korea, while the Electrified GV70 is built in Montgomery, Alabama.
2025 Genesis GV70 Styling
The GV70 makes a strong styling statement.
Is the Genesis GV70 a good-looking car?
For sure. The 2025 GV70 has a distinctive exterior and a stunning interior, earning it an 8 on the TCC scale.
With proportions that are more big wagon than small SUV, the GV70 has a long nose and a sloping roofline. Its blunt front end features a big grille surrounded by a quartet of thin LED headlights and running lights. The same look is mirrored at the rear, and a pair of tailpipes give off sporty vibes.
The GV70’s wheels go from great to spectacular as they work their way up to 21 inches. If there’s a downside to this exterior style, it’s the oddball quarter window at the rear that mucks up an otherwise elegant shape.
Outside, the Electrified GV70 differs little from its gas-fueled sibling, though its grille is fake, it does away with the big vents on the lower bumpers, and it adds a chrome strip that runs along the roofline and down that unusual rear-quarter window.
The aviation-inspired cabin might not be inspired by the brand’s heritage (Genesis is only a few years old, after all), but it looks great. A wing motif throughout shows stellar attention to detail. You’ll find a low dash with a high-mounted, wide touchscreen and a thin strip of climate control vents controlled by a panel of knobs and touch-sensitive buttons that could have come right out of a Cessna. Two knobs on the center console handle the transmission and various infotainment controls.
2025 Genesis GV70 Performance
The Genesis GV70 can hustle.
The smaller of Genesis’ two mainstream SUVs has impressive handling and terrific power. It’s an easy 7 on our scale.
Is the Genesis GV70 4WD?
Yes, all-wheel drive is standard. These small crossovers have limited ground clearance, though, so don’t plan to go four-wheeling.
How fast is the Genesis GV70?
The base version has a 2.5-liter turbo-4 rated at 300 hp, which is enough for good acceleration in most situations. Better—but thirstier and pricier—is the strong 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 with its 375 hp and hefty 391 lb-ft of torque. It’s no BMW X3 M rival, but the GV70 with this engine accelerates with authority, never feeling slow.
The slick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission sets a high bar, too. It’s always in the right gear and it includes convenient paddle shifters.
A firm but not stiff ride comes courtesy of a somewhat conventional front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link setup. Some models have adaptive dampers, which serve more to cancel out bumps from versions with bigger wheels. The GV70’s steering is fairly heavy, but light on feel and not as good at highway lane-centering as, say, the arrow-straight X3. Ultimately, the GV70 is less sporty than its looks might suggest, though it’s plenty fun. Most power goes to the rear wheels, resulting in a balanced, rear-drive feel when pushed hard. And in hard cornering, GV70s with the available electronic limited-slip rear differential can shuffle all power to a single wheel for maximum traction.
Genesis Electrified GV70 Performance
Though it’s only available in select markets, the Electrified GV70 may be worth seeking out. It’s heavy but quiet thanks to substantial sound deadening and a refined electric powertrain.
The Electrified GV70 features a 77.4-kwh battery pack and dual electric motors, good for a total system that puts out 483 hp. It’s not as rapid as that power figure suggests since it weighs 5,000 or so pounds, but it’s still plenty quick.
2025 Genesis GV70 Comfort & Quality
The 2025 Genesis GV70’s cabin is a stunner.
While not the most spacious compact luxury crossover, the 2025 Genesis GV70 has a luxurious interior, great seats, and decent cargo utility.
All models have power-adjustable and heated front seats, while additional adjustment, a basic massaging system, and cooling are available. The top Ergo Motion seat can slightly adjust the driver’s position automatically on longer treks, which is a nice feature.
Rear-seat riders will find 37.2 inches of legroom and decent headroom, plus the bench’s seat back can be reclined. It’s surprisingly spacious given the GV70’s somewhat trim proportions overall.
Behind the rear seats, you’ll find about 29 cubic feet of cargo space, which is on the low side for the segment. Fold the 40/20/40 seat backs down and cargo space maxes out at 56.9 cubic feet of space.
People and luggage ride in style, though. You’ll find nice materials throughout, especially the available leather seats and synthetic leather dashboard covering. Extensive laminated glass helps the GV70 stay quiet at speed, though the biggest 21-inch wheels can let more road noise into the interior.
2025 Genesis GV70 Safety
The Genesis GV70 has a top safety record.
How safe is the Genesis GV70?
It’s impressive. The NHTSA rates it five stars overall and the IIHS says it’s a Top Safety Pick. Those scores are worth a point each, while standard automatic emergency braking, active lane control, and adaptive cruise control nudge it to an 8 on the TCC scale.
Most trims also have blind-spot monitors, a blind-spot camera that projects a live feed into the instrument cluster, and a surround-view camera system. Six-cylinder models have a standard highway driving assist system that doesn’t offer long stints of hands-free driving but can significantly reduce driver fatigue at speed.
2025 Genesis GV70 Features
The 2025 Genesis GV70 is well-equipped for the money.
So long as you don’t jump all the way to the top of the lineup, the 2025 Genesis GV70 can be a good buy. It’s a solid 10 here thanks to its standard equipment, lavish extras at each step of the way, good warranty, impressive infotainment tech, and overall good pricing.
The base GV70 Standard costs $47,050, including the $1,350 destination fee. Genesis fits it with power-adjustable and heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, a 14.5-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, adaptive cruise control, a wifi hotspot, and a host of other niceties.
All GV70s have a 5-year/60,000-mile warranty plus three years of scheduled maintenance and a concierge service. The Electrified GV70 also comes with three years of 30-minute stints at Electrify America charging stations.
Which Genesis GV70 should I buy?
An extra $3,000 buys the Select trim with its big sunroof, a heated steering wheel, and a few other bits, but we’d spend the $6,000 overall upcharge for the Advanced trim with its leather seats, surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitors, and upgraded interior trim.
Alternatively, $59,650 nets the V-6, which is equipped about like the GV70 2.5T Advanced.
How much is a fully loaded Genesis GV70?
A top-of-the-line GV70 3.5T with the Sport Prestige package has a big 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, nappa leather seats, Lexicon audio, a head-up display, and more for $69,250, though you can add matte green paint for another $1,500.
2025 Genesis GV70 Fuel Economy
The 2025 Genesis GV70 is no fuel-efficiency champ.
Is the Genesis GV70 good on gas?
The base turbo-4 is estimated at a so-so 22 mpg city, 28 highway, 24 combined, unless you opt for the 21-inch wheels. Then it checks in at just 19/26/22 mpg. Those figures are good for a 2 on our scale.
The V-6 model, meanwhile, guzzles at a Tahoe-like 18/24/20 mpg.
What is the range of the Electrified GV70?
Better, but still not tops, is the Electrified GV70. It has a 236-mile range estimate and a decent efficiency of around 2.5 miles per kwh in our driving.
It charges pretty quickly, though. A household-style Level 2 charger can zip it up from nearly empty to full in about seven hours, while a 250-kw connection can toss in 60 miles of range in about five minutes.
The Electrified GV70 includes limited free charging at Electrify America stations.
