Overview
A smooth-riding wagonette, the HHR (for Heritage High Roof) is an example of retro design that both looks good and works well in utilitarian terms: the boxy shape makes it roomy inside. It beat the Honda Element in our comparison test but trailed the Chrysler PT Cruiser. The SS model offers a potent powertrain with some serious speed, tastefully sporty looks, cavernous cargo space, also available as a windowless panel van. The upright seating position is welcome, and the sport-tuned suspension is stiff, but not too jarring.
