Black Ghost sounds like the title of a horror movie, doesn't it? While it's not on any streaming services, soon the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody that bears the badge will likely be seen terrorizing traffic and roaring down local drag strips.

The Challenger Black Ghost is the sixth installment in Dodge's seven-part 'Last Call' series that started with the Shakedown edition. Dodge says it will only sell 300 copies of the Black Ghost, and the company has yet to announce pricing. However, that information is expected to be known once orders open this fall. Only specific dealerships will have allocations, though.

The 807-hp Hellcat-powered Challenger Black Ghost was first revealed in September 2022, but its appearance at this year's Chicago auto show was our first chance to see the limited-edition muscle car in person. Since the Black Ghost is the sixth special edition, we picked six cool details that stood out to us.

Black Ghost Origin Story

Black Ghost was the nickname for a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE owned by Godfrey Qualls. Back in the '70s, Qualls would roam Detroit's Woodward Avenue, using the black car's 426 Hemi to defeat rivals in drag races. Then it would speed off into the night, disappearing for months. It became known as the Black Ghost.

Gator-Skin-Like Roof

Easily the most distinctive detail about the Challenger Black Ghost is the faux-gator-skin graphics on the roof. Dodge says it's intended to look similar to the original Black Ghost's vinyl top. It's definitely not for everyone, but there are probably at least 300 people who will dig it.

D-O-D-G-E

Dodge shows itself some love with a chrome badge on the Black Ghost's hoodline. It's a callback to the look of its classic muscle cars, and it's a lot less obnoxious than the oversize logos on most new cars. A set of black hood pins is another old-school nod also seen on other modern Challengers.

Chrome-osome

While the murdered-out look of an all-black car is probably at the peak of its popularity, the Black Ghost boasts a chrome fuel door on its rear driver's-side flanks. It definitely pops out of the Challenger's Pitch Black paint.

Black Calipers for a Black Car

With its supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 summoning a monstrous 807 horsepower (10 more than most Hellcat engines), the Black Ghost needs a set of reliable stoppers. Those come in the form of huge discs pinched by black-painted Brembo six-piston front calipers. Here they are peeping out behind the Ghost's 20-inch Satin Carbon wheels.

Every Black Ghost has a (you guessed it) black interior featuring a mix of leather and microsuede upholstery. Along with that come real carbon-fiber trim and a host of other bits found in the regular SRT Hellcat.

While Dodge's second-to-last "Last Call" edition definitely has some cool details that catch our attention, we're expecting the series finale to blow our minds. Hopefully it's something with a 1000-hp Hellcat engine. We'll find out next month.

His aspiration growing up was to become a millionaire with a Jay Leno–like car collection. Apparently, getting rich is harder than social-media influencers make it seem, so he avoided financial success entirely to become an automotive journalist and drive new cars for a living. After earning a degree at Central Michigan University and working at a daily newspaper, the years of basically burning money on failed project cars and lemon-flavored jalopies finally paid off when Car and Driver hired him. His garage currently includes a 2010 Acura RDX, a manual '97 Chevy Camaro Z/28, and a '90 Honda CRX Si.
