The 2025 Kia Seltos is a right-priced small SUV with distinctive styling and a great infotainment system.
What kind of vehicle is the 2025 Kia Seltos? What does it compare to?
The 2025 Kia Seltos is a small crossover SUV worth shopping against the Hyundai Kona and Subaru Crosstrek, as well as Kia’s own, front-wheel drive-only Soul.
Is the 2025 Kia Seltos a good SUV?
It’s a pleasant choice with a well-proportioned cabin and great technology. We rate the 2025 Seltos a 5.8 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What's new for the 2025 Kia Seltos?
Parking sensors and a motion-activated power liftgate are now standard on more versions of the Seltos, while the base S trim level adds a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster and redesigned 17-inch alloy wheels to its roster of features.
Otherwise, the Seltos carries over after a revamp last year that tweaked its styling and brought more power to the available turbo.
The Seltos makes a strong first impression with its huge front grille, complex headlights, and myriad small details. An abundance of unpainted trim hints at some off-roadiness, but the Seltos won’t scramble too far up a trail. It’s more calming inside, particularly since most versions now have a pair of 10.3-inch screens, including an instrument cluster and a touchscreen for infotainment. They’re well-integrated, and the dash retains conventional buttons and knobs for many functions.
The base inline-4 puts out a modest 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque through a CVT, and that's barely enough for highway passing or driving in hilly or mountainous areas. At 31 mpg combined, though, the front-drive version of the Seltos offers reasonable fuel economy. AWD models slide to 29 mpg combined.
The more desirable powertrain here is the available 1.6-liter turbo-4, which pushes 195 hp to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. That’s decent power, though the Seltos is far from a sporty option. It has a comfortable ride that isolates bumps reasonably well and good steering heft, but its responses are not particularly athletic. That said, AWD versions have a more sophisticated rear axle that provides a better ride than front-drivers.
The Seltos has a big interior for a vehicle this small, with nearly 63 cubic feet of maximum cargo space. Its seats offer decent support, and it can handle four adults (or five skinny adults in a pinch.)
Since last year’s refresh, the Seltos hasn’t been fully crash tested, though all models have automatic emergency braking and active lane control. Blind-spot monitors come on most versions, but Kia restricts adaptive cruise control to the top SX trim only.
How much does the 2025 Kia Seltos cost?
The Seltos range starts at $25,965, which buys the base LX trim with all-wheel drive, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and reasonable crash-avoidance tech.
The cheapest turbo version is the $31,000 X-Line, which has some rugged styling elements but also lavishes on a 10.3-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, and a few other niceties.
Where is the 2025 Kia Seltos made?
In Gwangju, South Korea.
2025 Kia Seltos Styling
The 2025 Kia Seltos has some pleasant styling flair
Is the Kia Seltos a good-looking car?
It’s a stylish small SUV that manages to stand out in this crowded segment. It scores a 6 here thanks to the slick interior.
A light refresh last year gave the Seltos a busier front end, to which the automaker adds or subtracts small details as you work your way up the trim lineup. There’s a lot going on here, beginning with complex headlights that cut both into the grille and the front fenders. The design is so busy that some of the niftier details are lost in the mayhem.
It’s a bit more conventional from the side, though even then the hefty unpainted lower trim and the bulky rearmost roof pillar add plenty of visual weight. Taillights connected by a bar that spans the entire tailgate finish things off with sufficient drama, too.
The Seltos is at its best inside, particularly since most versions have a well-integrated 10.3-inch touchscreen right next to a similarly sized instrument cluster. Kia stuck with conventional buttons and knobs for most functions, and they’re easy enough to sort through.
2025 Kia Seltos Performance
The 2025 Kia Seltos is comfortable and can be fairly quick.
The 2025 Kia Seltos is no speed demon in most forms, but its comfortable ride keeps it at a 5 out of 10 on the TCC scale.
Is the Kia Seltos 4WD?
It can be, though S and EX trims are available in a front-wheel-drive configuration. The turbo is AWD-only.
How fast is the Kia Seltos?
LX, S, and EX trim levels of the Seltos use a 146-hp 2.0-liter inline-4 that mates to a CVT. We’ve yet to drive this setup in the latest Seltos, but experience with it in earlier models left little lasting impression. The combo gets the job done adequately, prioritizing fuel economy over performance. The CVT behaves reasonably well, though with so little power on tap for a somewhat heavy crossover, the engine spends a lot of time in the upper reaches of the rev range to keep up with traffic. In short, it’s a bit loud.
The stronger choice is the 195-hp 1.6-liter turbo-4 in X-Line and SX models. It's paired with a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission that’s eager to kick down a gear when needed. So-equipped, the Seltos accelerates smartly and smoothly, with good power in reserve for highway passing.
The Seltos is positioned less about sporty handling than it is about day-to-day comfort, and in this regard it’s a success. All-wheel-drive models have a more sophisticated suspension with rear struts that gives them a better overall ride and more predictable responses to sharp bumps. Some versions have a Sport drive mode that adds a bit of steering heft, though even the standard setup has reasonable weight and quick responses.
2025 Kia Seltos Comfort & Quality
The 2025 Kia Seltos is reasonably spacious inside.
Stretching a mere 172.6 inches long, the 2025 Kia Seltos will likely leave plenty of room in your garage. But make no mistake: it’s fairly roomy inside. It scores a 6 here thanks to a maximum of 62.8 cubic feet of cargo space, which is pretty good for its segment and its size.
The Seltos has flat seats with so-so support up front, though their limited bolstering means that even wider drivers will likely find them to be decently comfortable. Many versions have 10-way power adjustments, too.
The rear seat is best for just two adults as it’s a bit too narrow for three. With around 38 inches of rear-seat legroom, though, the Seltos can easily sit four full-size adults.
The Seltos has nice interior materials than most rivals and models we’ve driven have felt solid. The base LX version’s cloth seats feel a bit cheap, but other trims pepper in synthetic leather that dresses things up. Kia does a good job sweating the small stuff, too. Each trim level adds little bits like nicer door handles, lighted vanity mirrors, and the like.
2025 Kia Seltos Safety
The 2024 Kia Seltos has incomplete crash-test data.
How safe is the Kia Seltos?
It comes with a decent amount of collision-avoidance features, but the Kia Seltos has only been subjected to a handful of crash tests. We’ll update this space if the NHTSA and the IIHS complete their testing. For now, the Seltos doesn’t earn or lose any points for safety.
In what testing the IIHS did for the 2024 Seltos, it earned “Good” ratings. But its crash-avoidance system and headlights have yet to be evaluated, so it awaits a ruling on whether it’ll qualify as a Top Safety Pick.
It includes standard automatic high-beams, automatic emergency braking, active lane control, and lane-departure warnings. Most models also have blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts, and a safe exit warning system.
Only the top SX trim adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, though.
2025 Kia Seltos Features
The 2025 Kia Seltos offers a good overall value.
The 2025 Kia Seltos range starts at $25,965, for the base LX version with all-wheel drive. That model has automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and cruise control. It’s also covered by a 5-year/60,000-mile warranty.
For its good standard feature set, its quality touchscreen, and its big warranty, the Seltos range scores an 8 out of 10.
Which Kia Seltos should I buy?
The step-up S trim starts with a front-drive model for $600 more than the base LX AWD, while the S with AWD runs $27,965, or $2,000 more than the cheapest Seltos. That money buys worthwhile items such as the 10.3-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control, and keyless entry with push-button start. It’s worth the extra spend, we think.
The EX trim costs another $1,000 that adds a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, and a 10.3-inch instrument cluster. It’s available with front- or all-wheel drive.
We’d probably bypass that trim in favor of the $30,665, all-wheel drive-only X-Line that costs $1,000 more than the EX. Sure, it deletes the power driver’s seat, but its turbo engine is a nice addition.
How much is a fully loaded Kia Seltos?
The top-end Seltos SX will set you back $32,465. It comes only with the turbo and all-wheel drive, and it includes adaptive cruise control, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, Bose audio, and a power tailgate. Add the optional moonroof, cooled front seats, and extra-cost paint, and Kia will ask you for around $35,000.
2025 Kia Seltos Fuel Economy
The 2025 Kia Seltos offers decent fuel economy.
Is the Kia Seltos good on gas?
It’s not bad, though some competitors have higher estimates using the EPA test.
The 2025 Seltos is estimated at 28 mpg in the city, 34 highway, 31 combined with front-wheel drive. That earns it a 4 here. Opt for AWD and those figures slide to 27/31/29 mpg. The turbo is rather thirsty at 24/27/25 mpg.
