features & specs
The 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is a style statement of an SUV, and 6-cylinder versions have the muscle to back up those sporty looks.
What kind of vehicle is the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar? What does it compare to?
The Velar is a a compact luxury SUV with a sporty personality. It has some off-road chops, but plenty of on-road presence. Compare it to the Audi Q5, Porsche Macan, and Volvo XC60.
Is the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar a good SUV?
While far from a conventional value, the 2025 Velar is an appealing choice with strong powertrains, a great ride, and ageless styling. It earns 7.0 out of 10 on the TCC scale. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What's new for the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?
After a light refresh last year, the Velar largely carries into 2025 unchanged.
Styled like a slimmed-down version of the bigger Range Rover Sport, the Velar has a clean, elegant exterior with attractive details. Its low-slung roof gives it a sportier vibe than bigger Range Rover models, and most versions wear big wheels that easily fill its wheel wells.
The cabin has a sleek Scandinavian-esque aesthetic, with a well-integrated 11.4-inch touchscreen and no shortage of upholstery and trim options as you work your way through the lineup.
Base versions have a 247-hp 2.0-liter turbo-4 that’s fine, but we recommend the mild-hybrid turbocharged and supercharged 3.0-liter inline-6 that amps things up to 394 hp. It’s plenty quick, if short of ferocious, and it suits the Velar’s comfortable ride and sharp steering well.
Fuel economy estimates are in the low-20-mpg range.
The Velar’s cabin is spacious enough for four, so long as they’re not exceptionally tall. Nice trim inside includes standard leather, which can be upgraded to even softer hides.
The Velar is almost a good value given its standard safety feature set that includes adaptive cruise control, active lane control, and blind-spot monitors—all features that are commonly optional on top competitors. We recommend adding the surround-view camera, though, as those big wheels will be expensive to repair the first time they bump a curb.
How much does the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar cost?
The Velar range starts at $62,875. You’ll have to step up another $2,100 to the Dynamic SE trim level to unlock the 6-cylinder engine, which costs another $7,000. In short: figure at least $75,000 for a well-equipped Velar with a few extra options beyond the basic standard heated and power-adjustable front seats, Meridian audio, and LED exterior lights.
Where is the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar made?
In the United Kingdom.
2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Styling
The 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is one of today's most elegant SUVs.
Is the Land Rover Range Rover Velar a good-looking SUV?
Indeed it is. The Velar’s one of our favorites, even if its basic design is entering its twilight years. It’s an easy 10 on the TCC scale thanks to the way it samples bigger Land Rovers without diluting their personalities. It’s just as nice inside.
The Velar gained a few styling tweaks last year that gave it a new grille and other exterior details. That look carries into 2025, including high-mounted headlights surrounding a rectangular grille. Dynamic SE versions have more color-matched exterior trim, but they don’t really look that much different than the base S trim level. The two-box design draws from the beautiful Range Rover and makes it looker even sleeker, slimmer, simpler.
The cabin has a single 11.4-inch touchscreen and not many additional buttons or knobs, which gives off somewhat of a minimalist vibe. Land Rover offers a decent number of interior trims, but we suggest sticking with a light color to emphasize this cabin’s airy, almost Scandinavian feel.
2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Performance
The Velar has great on-road performance and some off-road capability.
The 2025 Velar is terrific on-road with good scoot even in base form and a supple ride. While it has some off-road ability, it’s not as capable as some other Range Rover models.
It scores a 7 here, thanks to its acceleration and its ride quality.
Is the Land Rover Range Rover Velar 4WD?
Yes, but don’t plan too grand an excursion into the wilderness. The Velar has off-road drive modes, plus its available air suspension can rise to the occasion for 10.0 inches of ground clearance. But its big wheels and somewhat long overhangs make it more of an urban choice than one that wants to get down and dirty.
How fast is the Land Rover Range Rover Velar?
It’s acceptable with the 2.0-liter turbo-4 that sends 274 hp to all four wheels through a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine is fine, but it doesn’t deliver the rush of power you’ll find from the available 3.0-liter inline-6 that features a turbocharger and a supercharger plus a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. There’s a lot going on here, but ultimately this powertrain delivers refined and rapid acceleration. The 48-volt mild-hybrid system also takes the edge off of the stop/start system, which can be an unfortunate attention-grabber with the base engine. It’s worth spending extra to get it.
The Velar rides best with the standard 19-inch and optional 20-inch alloy wheels. Bigger wheels will give it a choppy ride, though the available air suspension and adaptive dampers can soften things out a bit. Even on the stock coil springs, though, the Velar has a well-composed ride that adds confidence on a winding road. It’s relatively agile, too, thanks in part to quick-witted steering.
Drivers who want to get the best handling out of their Velars should seek out the electronic active rear differential that features a torque vectoring system that grabs the inside brake caliper to improve rotation in hard cornering.
2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Comfort & Quality
The 2025 Range Rover Velar’s cabin is a masterpiece.
The Velar has one of the nicest interiors you’ll find at any price, though it’s not particularly spacious. We give it an 8 on the TCC scale. It has comfy front seats and a big cargo area, plus the trim Land Rover fits has a properly luxurious feel.
The 11.4-inch touchscreen is nicely integrated into the dash. Don’t look for many additional buttons and knobs, though. There’s precious little to distract here. Even the gear lever in the center console is like a ship lost at sea.
Standard power-adjustable and heated front seats offer great all-day support. Additional adjustments as well as cooling are available. The rear seat has good legroom, but the sloping roofline digs into the headroom for taller riders.
Behind the rear seats, the cargo bay has 30.9 cubic feet of room. That expands to 62.7 cubic feet when the rear seatbacks are folded down. Those figures don’t make the Velar a particularly spacious SUV, though it's fine for shorter road trips.
Land Rover doesn’t offer quite the same palette of interior hues it once did, but there are still plenty of choices here to help personalize what’s already a rather stylish cabin. We’re especially fond of the available textile upholstery option that has made a return after several years away.
2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Safety
The 2025 Velar has not been crash-tested.
How safe is the Land Rover Range Rover Velar?
It has yet to be crashed by either the IIHS or the NHTSA, so it doesn’t get a score here.
That said, the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar has a good array of driver-assistance and crash-avoidance tech. All trim levels come with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, active lane control, and adaptive cruise control. A surround-view camera system is on the options list, and it’s something we highly recommend since outward vision isn’t great.
Land Rover does not offer a hands-free driver-assist feature on the Velar.
2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Features
The 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar has plenty of standard features—as it should for these prices.
The 2025 Range Rover Velar lineup kicks off at $62,875, which buys a reasonable amount of features to help justify that hefty price tag. You’ll get 19-inch alloy wheels, a big sunroof, LED headlights, and an interior upholstered in leather. The 11.4-inch touchscreen has wireless Apple CarPaly and Android Auto, as well as navigation, and there’s also a charging pad, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. Many of those features cost extra on competitors.
The Velar earns an 8 here thanks to good standard equipment, plenty of extras, and an appealing infotainment system.
The 4-year/50,000-mile warranty is typical for a luxury brand. It’s not as good as what Jaguar includes with its F-Pace, though.
Which Land Rover Range Rover Velar should I buy?
To get the inline-6, you’ll have to spend about $9,000 above the base price since you must first unlock the Dynamic SE trim level that mostly includes a few styling tweaks over the base Velar.
Then, we’d add metallic paint, wood trim (it’s a Land Rover, after all), textile upholstery, a package with parking sensors, a head-up display, and a surround-view camera system, and maybe a few other bits that will inevitably push the price tag to around $75,000.
That's lot of coin, but this is also a lot of vehicle.
How much is a fully loaded Land Rover Range Rover Velar?
The top HSE trim has 21-inch wheels, massaging front seats wrapped in upgraded leather, and an air suspension for about $82,000. Even then, Land Rover tempts with a few options.
2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Fuel Economy
The Range Rover Velar isn’t too thirsty given how powerful it is.
Is the Land Rover Range Rover Velar good on gas?
It’s all right. Base 4-cylinder models check in at 22 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined on the EPA’s test cycle. The hybrid is thirstier, but it’s also way more powerful. It’s estimated at a so-so 19/25/21 mpg. Note that these estimates are based on the 2024 model year. We’ll update this space when the 2025 models are certified by the EPA.
All Velars need premium gas.
