features & specs
Most truck shoppers will expect more from a pickup than the Nissan Titan has to offer.
What kind of vehicle is the 2024 Nissan Titan? What does it compare to?
Nissan’s 2024 Titan is a full-size truck that competes with pickups like the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ford F-150, Toyota Tundra, and Ram 1500.
Is the 2024 Nissan Titan a good truck?
Among full-size pickups, it’s not our favorite, but we do like its powerful V-8. With a limited powertrain lineup, a middling interior, and awkward styling, it’s a 5 on the TCC Scale. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What's new for the 2024 Nissan Titan?
Nissan drops the base S trim and starts at the SV, which raises the price of entry considerably but also presents a much better truck. There’s also a new SV Bronze Edition package, which for $2,980 adds black and bronze styling elements, bronze 20-inch wheels, and some other visual upgrades.
Nissan offers the Titan in typical extended-cab and crew-cab configurations, and in a long-bed, crew-cab XD model with better hauling capability. All feature 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque from a 5.6-liter V-8 engine paired with a smooth 9-speed automatic transmission. Rear-drive comes standard and four-wheel drive is available and standard on XD. This part-time system is less versatile than rivals’ systems and shouldn’t be used on dry pavement. The V-8 is powerful and sounds great, but chugs fuel to the tune of 18 mpg combined.
The Titan is most popular in crew-cab configuration, which features plenty of space, comfortable seats, and user-friendly technology. An 8.0-inch touchscreen comes standard and a 9.0-inch touchscreen is available. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is standard across the line, with Apple CarPlay available wireless in top trims.
The cabins fall short of rival offerings in terms of design and materials, however.
Nissan equips every Titan with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, and lane-departure warnings, but crash-testing yields mixed results.
How much does the 2024 Nissan Titan cost?
This year, the lineup starts with the rear-wheel drive SV Crew Cab model, which comes to $47,665 after the $1,895 destination charge. The four-wheel drive SV Crew Cab costs $50,885. There are more versions, but we’d stop there.
Where is the 2024 Nissan Titan made?
Canton, Mississippi.
2024 Nissan Titan Styling
Most rivals offer more cohesive styling than the 2024 Nissan Titan.
Is the Nissan Titan a good-looking car?
Not particularly. We take a point from average for the awkward exterior styling. It’s a 4 here.
The 2024 Titan is oddly proportioned in both of its available cab and bed configurations. It combines a huge grille on a long front end, a low cab, overstyled fenders, and a range of chrome accents depending on trim level.
The cabin is dull but inoffensive, with a base 8.0-inch touchscreen that grows by an inch in most versions, with physical controls nearby. The dashboard’s layout is pleasant and easy to use, but most Detroit-based rivals have advanced by leaps and bounds in terms of cabin design.
2024 Nissan Titan Performance
The Titan’s V-8 engine offers good grunt with a price at the pump
The Titan features a robust V-8 engine paired with a smooth 9-speed automatic transmission, but the clumsy ride and handling keep the Titan from earning any points. It’s a 5.
Is the Nissan Titan 4WD?
It’s available. Most configurations can be upgraded from rear- to four-wheel drive, and the Titan XD gets 4WD standard.
The Titan’s part-time four-wheel drive setup shouldn’t be used on dry pavement, and can’t compete with most rivals’ off-road systems, even the Pro-4X model. Nissan offers a locking rear differential but otherwise, the Titan is pretty basic in this department.
How fast is the Nissan Titan?
It’s quick, with a smooth 400-hp 5.6-liter V-8 and a 9-speed automatic transmission that make a fine pair. The engine growls under pressure but it’ll take a toll on that fuel gauge.
The Titan has unusually heavy steering, which usually indicates entertaining handling, but that’s not the case here. It’s prone to wandering, even at highway speeds. The XD gets a heavy-duty suspension to carry heavier loads, but many drivers will find this setup too stiff to be comfortable as a daily driver.
The Titan can tow up to 9,300 pounds, properly equipped, and the XD adds about 2,000 more pounds to that rating.
2024 Nissan Titan Comfort & Quality
Nissan outfits the Titan’s massive cabin in dull materials, which makes some rivals more appealing.
There’s plenty of space to stretch out in the 2024 Nissan Titan, but almost all rivals have more welcoming cabin design. It’s a 7 here for quality.
For a spacious second row, skip the extended-cab models and stick with the crew cab, which offers more legroom as well as a rear seat base that flips up for storage and flexibility. Leather upholstery is optional and makes the Titan feel a little more upscale, but plastic surfaces abound throughout the lineup even the top Platinum Reserve feels more like rivals’ mid-level trims.
Extended-cab models get a 6.5-foot bed, while the crew-cab pairs with a 5.5-foot bed. The XD pairs the larger of both. Factory tiedowns and bedliners are available, but the Titan doesn’t offer fancy tailgates or other distinctive features that distinguish competitors.
2024 Nissan Titan Safety
Good crash-avoidance features help offset the 2024 Nissan Titan’s mixed crash-test results.
How safe is the Nissan Titan?
It could be safer. Automatic emergency braking comes standard, but mediocre crash-test ratings mean the 2024 Nissan Titan is just a 5 here.
The IIHS gives the Titan mostly “Good” scores aside from a disconcerting “Acceptable” in the small-overlap test for the passenger’s side. Its headlights also rate “Poor,” though the automatic emergency system earns top marks.
The NHTSA awards a four-star overall rating. In IIHS testing, the Titan earns mostly top “Good” scores, though an “Acceptable” in the passenger-side small-overlap test and a “Poor” rating for headlights is cause for concern.
2024 Nissan Titan Features
The warranty remains decent, but the Nissan Titan’s value has slipped over the years.
Compared to rivals, the 2024 Nissan Titan has a high base price of $47,665 for the SV Crew Cab trim with rear-wheel drive, after the base S trim was dropped this year. We award an 8 for its standard 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and automatic emergency braking, plus a 5-year/100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.
Which Nissan Titan should I buy?
We’d stick with the SV trim, which also includes features like heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, remote start, and parking sensors. The four-wheel drive SV Crew Cab model starts at $50,885.
How much is a fully loaded Nissan Titan?
It’s $67,735 for the 2024 Titan XD Platinum Reserve.
2024 Nissan Titan Fuel Economy
The 2024 Nissan Titan is one of the most gas-guzzling trucks on the market.
Is the Nissan Titan good on gas?
It’s bad, even judged by class standards. Based on EPA ratings for rear-drive models of just 16 mpg city, 21 highway, 18 combined, it’s a 1 here.
Most four-wheel drive models are only a little worse at 15/21/18 mpg, but the Pro-4X’s higher ride shaves ratings even more, to 15/20/17 mpg. The EPA doesn’t rate the larger Titan XD.
