  • Highs Straightforward interior layout, accommodating cabin storage bins, serenely quiet inside.
  • Lows Engine could use some finesse, Android Auto doesn’t work wirelessly, available 20-inch wheels deliver a harsh ride.
  • Verdict The QX60 looks the part of a luxury SUV and offers a tranquil cabin, but it lacks the panache that’s essential to attract affluent buyers.

Overview

Once upon a time, Infiniti was at the forefront of the Japanese luxury sedan game, but more recently the company has turned its attention to premium SUVs—for instance, the 2023 QX60. In some ways, the QX60 is faithful to the brand’s original formula of combining a striking design with a posh cabin at a high-value price point. But its roots as a rebodied Nissan Pathfinder cannot be ignored and cast the QX60 in a downmarket light. The greasy bits that underpin the two SUVs are essentially identical, right down to the 295-hp V-6 engine and nine-speed automatic transmission that are standard on every model. Dynamically, the QX60 is a softie—as long as you avoid the temptation of optional 20-inch wheels—and we figure most buyers in this class won’t mind the Infiniti’s lack of cornering attitude, but it sure makes us yearn for the sports sedans that marked the brand’s peak era. At the very least, the QX60 is equipped with the same niceties as key rivals such as the BMW X5, the Lincoln Aviator, and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-class. Unfortunately, the Infiniti lacks the upper-class swagger of those competitors and instead comes across merely as a really nice Nissan.

What's New for 2023?

The QX60 rolls into the 2023 model year with few changes, but a wireless smartphone charging pad is now standard, as is a frameless rearview mirror design. The QX60’s bumpers now come with gloss-black accents on Luxe models and dark-gray accents on Sensory and Autograph trims.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Pure
$50,395
Luxe
$55,250
Sensory
$59,795
Autograph
$63,795

The Sensory trim is the model we'd suggest. It comes standard with premium features such as massaging front seats, heated second-row seats, an air purifier, wireless smartphone charging, a motion-activated power liftgate, and a 17-speaker Bose stereo system. Front-wheel drive is standard and will likely be fine for most buyers, but all-wheel drive is a $2000 option.

    Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The 2023 QX60 is powered by a 295-hp V-6 engine and comes with a nine-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is optional, but on the new QX60, front-wheel drive is standard. The QX60 offers up to 6000 pounds of towing capacity, an increase of 1000 pounds over the last-generation model. During our initial test drive of the 2022 QX60, we appreciated the new nine-speed automatic's smooth shifts and well-controlled body motions when cornering. The ride is stiffer than we expected for what otherwise is a comfy cruiser, especially on the optional 20-inch wheels. At our test track, the QX60 scampered to 60 mph in a respectable 6.2 seconds and proved to be significantly quieter than its country cousin, the Nissan Pathfinder. The V-6 engine, however, could use some refinement. In comparison to smooth-running mills from luxury brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the Infiniti's 3.5-liter sounds gritty, especially under heavy throttle.

    Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA has given the QX60 fuel economy ratings of 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway for front-wheel-drive models; all-wheel drive drops those numbers by 1 mpg each. On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route, we recorded 24 mpg in an all-wheel drive QX60 Autograph. For more information about the QX60's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

    Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Every QX60 offers a three-row interior layout, which means space for up to seven passengers; the top-spec Autograph model comes with second-row captain's chairs, reducing passenger capacity to six. The luxed-up cabin is convincing, with posh materials used throughout and extra sound-deadening efforts to provide more solace from the outside world. Both front seats offer eight-way power adjustments as well as heat, but Infiniti also offers niceties such as ventilated front seats, a massage feature, and heated rear seats as options. Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard as well, and higher trim levels can be ordered with a three-zone system that also includes an air purifier.

      Infotainment and Connectivity

A 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard on the QX60, and it features Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. A secondary 12.3-inch digital gauge display is optional, as is a 10.8-inch head-up display. All QX60s also come with onboard Wi-Fi. Buyers can also order a 17-speaker Bose premium stereo system.

      Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

A host of driver-assistance features are standard, with more high-tech items being offered as options, including an adaptive cruise control system that utilizes data from the QX60's onboard navigation system to slow the vehicle in anticipation of upcoming curves in the road. For more information about the QX60's crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

      • Standard forward collision warning with automated emergency braking
      • Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
      • Available adaptive cruise control

      Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

All Infiniti models offer longer powertrain coverage than most rivals at six years or 70,000 miles, but the brand doesn't offer complimentary scheduled maintenance as the BMW does for the X5 or the Volvo for the XC90.

      • Limited warranty covers 4 years or 60,000 miles
      • Powertrain warranty covers 6 years or 70,000 miles
      • Complimentary maintenance is covered for 3 years, regardless of vehicle mileage.
