Overview

It may not have the bulletproof branding of some competitors, but the 2019 Acura RLX is not without charms. A styling refresh in 2018 mercifully replaced the RLX's beaklike front grille with a more handsome trapezoidal design, but its bland looks still make it easy to lose it in a crowd.

Engines, Ride, and Handling

A 310-hp 3.5-liter V-6 is standard and comes linked to a 10-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Our choice is the RLX Sport Hybrid, which uses a 377-hp powertrain derived from the one used in the Acura NSX super car—a 3.5-liter V-6 and three electric motors. At our test track, the Sport Hybrid managed a brisk 4.9-second run to 60 mph. Although it has Acura's SH-AWD system to aid handling, the RLX Sport Hybrid isn't as pleasing on a twisty road as rivals such as the Cadillac CTS or the Audi A6.

Interior and Technology

Inside the RLX's nicely trimmed cabin, occupants will find plenty of space in both the front and the back seats. Comfortable seating and a long list of standard amenities are sure to please. Leather upholstery, power-adjustable seats with heat, three-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable steering wheel, ambient interior lighting, and a power sunroof come on all models. A 14-speaker ELS Studio audio system and a dual-display infotainment system are also standard, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability are both missing from the spec sheet. Acura provides a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features on all RLX trims, which includes automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist.
