Though the 2025 Toyota Sienna isn’t as flexible as some competitors, it’s among class leaders in efficiency.
What kind of vehicle is the 2025 Toyota Sienna? What does it compare to?
Toyota’s Sienna stands out in the minivan segment thanks to its hybrid powertrain and available all-wheel drive. Like most competitors, it’s available in seven- and eight-seat configurations. Contemporaries include the Chrysler Pacifica, Kia Carnival, and Honda Odyssey.
Is the 2025 Toyota Sienna a good van?
Yes. The Sienna is efficient and well-equipped across the lineup, though it has some quirks and safety concerns. The 2025 Toyota Sienna has a TCC Rating of 6.7 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What's new for the 2025 Toyota Sienna?
Toyota updates the 2025 Sienna with a subtle styling refresh and some new features. Namely, the base LE trim gets a new 8.0-inch touchscreen (down from 9.0 inches), while higher trims get a 12.3-inch version. A new radar-based rear seat reminder system with automated text and phone alerts comes standard across the lineup. A built-in refrigerator and vacuum are now available on the Limited trim and standard on the Platinum. Cabin materials and finishes are updated across the lineup, and the XSE and Woodland trims get minor exterior updates.
The lineup, consisting of base LE, value XLE and XLE Woodland, mid-tier XSE, and top Limited and Platinum trims, carries over. Front-wheel drive is standard, though all-wheel drive can be optioned on every trim.
Exterior design borders on overkill, which keeps the Sienna from achieving a handsome look. The cabin feels cozy bordering on snug up front thanks to the tall center console and horizontal dash, and this year’s updates to the materials and finishes are a welcome change of pace.
The Sienna’s hybrid powertrain makes 245 hp from its 2.5-liter inline-4 engine and electric motors; there are two motors in front-wheel-drive versions and a third when upgraded with AWD. A CVT maximizes efficiency while minimizing potential driving enjoyment, though the Sienna’s suspension and steering tuning provides a smooth ride and composed handling.
The Sienna is EPA-rated at 36 mpg combined with front-wheel drive, the most efficient in the class aside from Chrysler’s plug-in Pacifica Hybrid.
Though the Sienna has comparable space to rivals, at least on paper, Toyota falls short in utilization and flexibility. It’s available with second-row captain’s chairs, for seven-passenger seating, or a row of three seats, for the maximum eight-passenger capacity. Neither configuration is as spacious, as comfortable, or as flexible as the configurations offered by most other minivans.
In 2024 crash tests, the Sienna earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS and a five-star rating from the NHTSA, though both evaluations have footnotes that are worth considering. The Sienna has a competitive list of standard safety technology, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts, and a new advanced rear occupant alert system.
How much does the 2025 Toyota Sienna cost?
The base Sienna LE costs about $39,000 including the $1,395 destination fee. It’s well equipped with cloth upholstery, an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Shoppers who need an eight-passenger layout should keep in mind that only the LE and front-wheel-drive XLE have that option. The Platinum is at the top of the lineup, which for about $55,000 adds leather upholstery and JBL audio.
Where is the 2025 Toyota Sienna made?
It’s built in Princeton, Indiana.
2025 Toyota Sienna Styling
The Toyota Sienna’s cheerful exterior gives way to a purpose-built cabin.
Is the Toyota Sienna a good-looking van?
Outside, the 2025 Toyota Sienna features angles designed to maximize interior space and sculpted lines for visual interest, for a busy effect overall. The Sienna is a 6, with a point for its cabin design.
For 2025, Toyota makes minor styling updates across the lineup. All models are updated with new interior materials, the Woodland model gets a new wheel design, and the XSE gets black exterior trim, black door handles, and a metallic grille.
Although a minivan can hardly be called sexy, the Sienna has an endearing personality, with muscular wheel wells and lots of angles along the side profile. Entry trims dress it down, and the Woodland adds bolder trim and 0.6 more ground clearance for 6.9 inches total.
The cabin is more traditional, though there are some distinctive touches. A tall console separates front passengers, and the sparse, low dashboard only looks upscale in top trims, topped by a big touchscreen. It’s spacious and airy, though, which is ideal for a minivan.
2025 Toyota Sienna Performance
Toyota prioritizes fuel economy over acceleration in the 2025 Sienna.
The Toyota Sienna understands the assignment, even if it doesn’t ace it. Acceleration is just adequate, but ride quality earns a point, for a 6.
Is the Toyota Sienna 4WD?
Though most of the lineup is driven by the front wheels, all-wheel drive is an easily accessible and reasonably affordable upgrade. It costs $2,000 and even less on some trims. The XLE Woodland gets AWD standard.
The all-wheel drive powertrain adds another electric motor to power the rear axle, but the system doesn’t combine the power distribution. It’s not the strongest AWD system on the market, but it’s effective for fuel economy optimization on slick-pavement traction.
How fast is the Toyota Sienna?
It’s not. Toyota powers the Sienna with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine combined with two or three electric motors yielding 245 hp. For efficiency’s sake, a sluggish CVT manages power. Power is OK on the low end, thanks to the hybrid’s motors, but it’s increasingly sluggish at higher speeds.
However, the Sienna keeps pace with top rivals in terms of ride quality. It has responsive steering with good feedback, minimal body lean, and a smooth ride. Road manners are better than most Toyotas, more on par with Lexus, and it has good brake feel.
2025 Toyota Sienna Comfort & Quality
Though practical, the 2025 Toyota Sienna lacks some of the magic of other minivans.
Toyota offers the 2025 Sienna with seating configurations for seven or eight passengers, though some rivals have more flexible seating options. It also has expansive cargo space when the seats are folded. That earns it an 9 here.
For 2025, Toyota updates the Sienna’s interior materials and trim across the lineup, including color palettes, dashboard covering, door panels, and center console materials. The Sienna’s front seats are well bolstered with plenty of support, good for all-day comfort. Cloth upholstery comes standard, though synthetic and genuine leather are available, along with heating and cooling.
The Sienna boasts power-sliding side doors across the lineup, opening up to an eight-passenger seating layout available in just base two trims. It’s not a true bench in the second row, but a slim middle seat. A real middle bench, with room for adults, would be more practical. The seven-seat layout gets a pair of captain’s chairs with folding footrests. Both layouts provide sliding outboard seats in the second row, for more maneuverability around the cabin.
Both the Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica have more third-row space than the Sienna, and the Sienna’s tiny rear windows exacerbate the effect.
The Sienna has a 33.5-cubic-foot cargo area, which can be expanded to 75.2 cubes by manually folding the rearmost row. Though some rivals have easily foldable or removable second-row seats to increase cargo capacity, tools are required to remove the Sienna’s, which will yield 101.0 cubic feet of space. Throughout the cabin, there are ample small-items storage cubbies.
2025 Toyota Sienna Safety
Crash-test scores are mixed, but Toyota loads the Sienna with great safety tech.
How safe is the Toyota Sienna?
Based on 2024 crash evaluations, the Toyota Sienna has mixed test results but a good list of standard driver-assistance features. The Sienna earns two points, one for tech and one for the IIHS’ 2024 Top Safety Pick rating, but loses a point for a “Marginal” score in one of the updated IIHS front impact tests. It’s a 6.
In NHTSA evaluations, the Sienna earns a five-star overall rating, though in the driver side front impact test, the Sienna scored just three stars.
The 2025 Toyota Sienna comes standard with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, automatic high beams, and rear cross-traffic alerts. For 2025, Toyota adds a new standard rear seat reminder system, which uses radar to detect forgotten passengers or pets in the rear rows, and can send text alerts and automated calls when an occupant is detected via the subscription-based Toyota Connect telematics system, with an included 10-year free trial. The Sienna is available with a rear camera mirror, a surround-view camera system, a head-up display, and front and rear parking sensors.
The Sienna has poor outward vision thanks to its thick pillars and small windows, so we’d add the optional cameras to our build.
2025 Toyota Sienna Features
The Sienna is expensive, but Toyota packs in tons of amenities.
For 2025, Toyota makes minor tweaks to the features menu, though its overall value remains intact. It earns points here for its good set of standard features, available options, and easy-to-use infotainment system, for an 8.
Toyota backs the Sienna with an average 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.
Which Toyota Sienna should I buy?
The entry-level Sienna LE, about $39,000 including the $1,395 destination fee, comes well equipped. Features include a new 8.0-inch touchscreen (smaller than the 2024 model by an inch, but running an updated system), Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cloth upholstery, power driver seat, power-sliding side doors, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Budget another $2,000 for all-wheel drive, though on some trims it costs less.
In XLE trim, for about $45,000, the Sienna gets a sunroof, which shaves away some headroom, synthetic leather upholstery, a power tailgate, and a new 12.3-inch touchscreen.
The mid-range XSE starts at about $47,000 and adds dark trim, front sport seats, navigation, an intercom system, a sport-tuned suspension, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
At about $51,000, the Sienna Limited is our spending limit. It comes with cooled front seats, leather upholstery, footrests in the second row, JBL audio,. This year, the Limited can be fitted with a refrigerator and vacuum.
We wouldn’t spend beyond the Sienna Limited’s $50,840. That gets leather upholstery, cooled front seats, second-row seats with fold-out footrests, a JBL audio system, and wireless phone charging.
How much is a fully loaded Toyota Sienna?
Plan to spend about $55,000 for a 2025 Sienna Platinum upgraded with all-wheel drive. This year, the Platinum gets a standard refrigerator and built-in vacuum cleaner.
2025 Toyota Sienna Fuel Economy
The 2025 Sienna’s standard hybrid powertrain makes for efficient family travel.
Is the Toyota Sienna good on gas?
It’s one of the more efficient minivans you can buy. Front-wheel drive Sienna models are rated for 36 mpg across the board. All-wheel drive shaves only 1 mpg off the city and combined estimates. That’s a 5 on our scale.
According to the EPA, most minivans yield a combined rating in the 20s. That makes the Sienna the second-most efficient minivan on the market, following Chrysler’s Pacifica Hybrid, which has 32 miles of electric range and an EPA combined rating of 30 mpg.
